Beyond the Classroom: How to be Allies

Learn about the issues that are facing the LGBTQ+ community today! Mr. Isaac Tenorio and Ms. Audrey King will be sharing ways to create safe spaces for students and what you can do to be an ally for our LGBTQ+ youth in the CNMI.

 

Speakers:

Audrey King (Presenter)

Ms. King graduated with honors from Mount Carmel High School. She then graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Hawaii Pacific University. She also received her Master’s degree in Sociology from George Mason University. She has previously worked as an elementary school teacher for the CNMI Public School System and later transitioned to school counseling. She is now entering her 4th year as the counselor for Da’ok Academy. Da’ok Academy serves high school students, with behavioral, academic, social, and emotional challenges within PSS, that are at-risk of not completing high school. Ms. King also serves as an Advisor for the Student Council and the Youth Advisory Panel. She truly loves working with this particular clientele of students and finds it to be equally rewarding as it is challenging, which she believes is a perfect environment for growth. Ms. King enjoys photography, cooking, baking, travelling, and karaoke, whenever she gets the chance.

 

Issac Tenorio (Presenter)

Mr. Isaac is a 2014 graduate from Saipan Southern High School and received his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 2019 from the Northern Marianas College. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Educational Technology with Concordia University - Nebraska. He is a certified Classroom Teacher, with classroom experience at both the middle and elementary schools with Mrs. Yvette Tenorio. Isaac helped start the First Pride Club at San Vicente Elementary School with Mrs. Yvette Tenorio. He was a featured speaker for the 2019 Pacific Century Fellows Love Wins in the Marianas Video for Pride 2019 and is currently a volunteer for Pride Marianas Youth’s 2020 June Pride Planning committee. He enjoys making people laugh, cooking meals for friends and family, and playing video games.


Mia Fleming (Host)

Mia Fleming is a recent graduate from Marianas High School. She’s the former president of the 4-H Dolphins and plans on being part of the 4-H in college as well. She’s a hardworking student who enjoys helping the community in any way she can. Mia wishes to gain more experiences, which she will use for future endeavors.
