NORTHERN Marianas College-Cooperative Research, Extension, and Education Services will host commercial and family food forest agroforestry workshops and seminars on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota beginning Nov. 4 on Saipan.

Registration is ongoing, Jesse Deleon Guerrero, NMC-CREES extension agent, said.

According to “Breadfruit Agroforestry Guide,” written by Dr. Craig Elevitch and Diane Ragone, agroforestry integrates “trees, shrubs, and other perennial plants with crops and/or animals in ways that provide economic, environmental, and social benefits.”

Elevitch was a presenter at a previous agroforest workshop.

Deleon Guerrero said the upcoming workshops and seminars will help families and commercial farmers learn “how to grow abundant food in ways that help restore the environment and increase food security.”

A “Family Food Forest & Commercial Agroforestry Workshop” will be held on Saipan on Nov. 4 in room K-1 at NMC from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The practical application portion is set for Nov. 11 at the NMC-CREES As Perdido Research station from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
