The Rota 4-H Camp Maga’lahi is a summer camp designed for children ages 7 to 12. It provides a memorable educational experience through a variety of outdoor activities, engaging presentations, and hands-on learning opportunities.

The annual 4-H Camp Maga’lahi on Rota was a tremendous success. Held collaboratively by Northern Marianas College Cooperative Research, Extension, and Education Services (NMC-CREES) and 4-H Marianas, the camp took place at Sinapalo Children’s Park from July 15 to 19.

Throughout the week, campers had the opportunity to acquire new skills and explore their island's culture. They expanded their knowledge in areas such as vertical mangrove crab farming, healthy lifestyles, power distribution, safety protocols, and power plants. Additionally, campers made new friends and had valuable bonding time with their counselors.

Counselors also gained valuable experience through their preparation and interactions with the campers. They had the opportunity to enhance their leadership and communication skills while fulfilling their responsibilities. One counselor shared, “Camp has helped me become more social and confident while speaking with others,”

Parents of campers could see differences in their kids after camp. A parent of a camper said, “My son is happy after camp and is excited to go to camp the next day.” Another parent of a camper also saw a positive improvement in her child and said, “Camp helped my child be more social.”

NMC-CREES Family, Community, Youth Development Program Extension Aide, Tonica Barcinas said, “I look forward to having more campers, counselors, and parents volunteer their time for this period.”
